Introducing Goat Pen Dark

A shadow Community…with loose standards

Unfiltered & Uncensored

Goat Pen Dark is a social experiment to see if providing an underground shadow community, with loose community standards, alongside our traditional social community, helps to keep public discussions more civil while also providing an outlet for candid free speech. Short of illegal activity and threats of violence, you will not be censored, filtered, blocked or cancelled in Goat Pen Dark.

How it Works:

  • All standard patron memberships include Goat Pen Dark access.
  • Simply discover “The Domain of the Dark Goat” buttons located throughout the site to view the groups and forums (aka Goat Pens) and then join the ones of your choosing.
  • You’re fee to:
    •  “Start some shit”
    • Join some shit already in progress
    • Move your shit from Goat Pen to Goat Pen Dark by suggesting the move and tagging participants
  • Goat Pen members are auto-approved to join any Goat Pen in the Dark Goat’s Shadow Domain.
  • As of now, we do not allow Patron Members to create Special Interest Goat Pens like Facebook does with their FB Groups and this includes Goat Pen Dark.
  • Goat Pen does not support anonymous posting. If you want to protect your identity you must purchase and create another profile or remove personally identifiable information from your existing profile. Memberships at Goat Pen are inexpensive and can be acquired with cash or merchandise.

The Rules:

  • No illegal activity
  • No threats of violence
  • No spam or self promotion
  • “What Happens in the Dark…Stays in The Dark.” So, don’t take the same attitude or grudges into the public Goat Pens.

Most Social Media is a Clown Show

How Meta!

I got censored by Chat GPT in making the above cartoon about being censored.

To illustrate points for my blog posts, I often use cartoons created by AI. I usually ask for it to be in kind of a Gary Larson The Far Side Style. They come out pretty close, more of a classic cartoon strip/editorial style but it’s got a little of that Gary Larson vibe.

I wanted a cartoon that captured the ridiculousness of Tik Tok’s censorship. I have a troll account on Tik Tok that I enjoy starting or continuing shit with. Most of the time, I’m actually pretty nice and my posts are just kind of absurd with attempts at humor. Although, I do enjoy stirring the pot from time to time. However, it’s never hateful and often right in line with the tone of the the original post or someone else’s comment. What’s gotten out of hand though, is that Tik Tok blocks nearly every single comment of mine and I have to appeal. Sometimes the appeal is granted. Sometimes it’s not.

An Absurd Example

If someone made a post asking people to comment on their tits…and you commented “nice tits” it would sure seem to be appropriate and within the spirit of the original post. However, Tik Tok will remove that comment, while allowing the post. And, they remove numerous comments that are no more inappropriate than the original post or other comments.

Below is my conversation with Chat GPT, who rather humorously speaks of "The AI" in the third person.

Censorship or Not?

Censorship is one of those things that really does present a solid either or argument

Most either/or arguments are bullshit. Because most things aren’t black and white. But, censorship makes a strong case for the either/or stance.
  • Either you allow censorship…or you don’t
  • Either people are free to speak…or they’re not
  • Either you have a nanny state…or you don’t
  • Either we’re removing a check and balance…or we’re not
  • Either censorship is a check and balance…or it’s not
  • Either censorship interrupts necessary system feedback…or it doesn’t
  • Either you allow people to lie and spread disinformation, or you don’t
  • Either you allow people to say hurtful things or you don’t
  • Either you can have a thing…or you can’t
The bottom line with censorship is that you cannot have a thing…and not have it too. And, in areas of grey where one gets to be the arbiter, invariably they fuck it up.

So, what is the lesser of  the two evils between free speech and censorship? Clearly, the lesser evil is free expression and free speech. Because, if you allowed it, the likely outcome would be conforming to reasonable cultural, social and legal norms. Some form of homeostasis would be achieved that would not result in the system collapsing. The likely outcome of promoting censorship would be removing all self-correcting feedback mechanisms from a system and collapse.

Science and mathematics don’t appear to be on the side of censorship but the reasons gets esoteric enough to leave it largely not understood by the majority of regular people, including myself. This would be an awesome subject put to a Dudeus Ex Machina Podcast panel to solve. With AI on their side, and with their largely blue collar no bullshit sensibilities, the Dudeus would be able to distill concepts like cybernetics, Ashby’s Law of Requisite Variety, Information Theory Signal Loss and Homeostasis down to relatable examples not requiring knowledge of differential equations to understand. In the meantime, it’s sufficient to say that science and math are largely on the side of leaving that which is currently un-fucked alone, so as not to require a future un-fucking after an inevitable up-fucking.
