It’s 7:13 PM and I’m Fried

Just glanced at the clock. I’ve been working on the last few website things before I start asking people for their money.

Just taking a writing break before I hit the gym and go for a walk.

Here is the reality about launching a site like Goat Pen: You’re trying to convince people to join a learning platform with no teachers yet while also asking teachers to join a learning platform with no students…yet.

Why do I spend my time on polish when I’m building in public? It’s not completely done and it’s not supposed to be. There is no way a solo dude like myself can cross every “T” and dot every “I”. Polish might be avoidance.

But, throwing caution to the wind and “just launching the damn thing”…is just another form of not doing the work.

It’s a balance.

I spent the day working with AI to code a media carousel and slider that could accept iframe embeds for the widgets I’m building for the G-Force Live app. I have one I call a Flash Cube. It’s like a flash card but the cube rotates instead of pulling a fresh card. Then the faces on the cube flip to reveal answers. It’s perhaps more visually interesting, and when learning — that’s not nothing (human inserted em dash btw – alt 0151). My AI bro and I can’t seem to get the widget right. It’s working as a carousel, but we gave up on the embeds. For now.

It wasn’t a waste of time, but it was hours spent on something that in the end didn’t get me any closer to launching and getting my first subscribers. It will however probably pay off at some point in the future. And, for someone who’s Bootstrapped AF, it’s all learning. I’m building capabilities I guess.

It’s now 7:29 PM (Pacific if you care). I’ve been typing this for 17 minutes…and that’s probably close to enough for today’s post.

My last thought I had with my AI bro was this:

It seems to me that mindset for doers and builders (I’ve come to hate the words “founder” and “entrepreneur” because they’ve been hijacked by the meta-successful content marketing class) is so damned important. But, it’s never really the motivational guru that pulls your feet from the funk. It’s you. There is some shit in the air, some kind of nutrients maybe. Maybe the guru sends some out to be helpful, but maybe not. I think it’s mostly just a different way of being gritty. Resilience in action. You’re looking for the pick up. You’re going to find it. A song…the dog licking your ears…a kind word. All the guru probably does is put some stuff out there that might help. But, in their absence, you’d find what you need somewhere. They just take credit for it. And, worst of all, they often present some kind of plan for you to implement instead of doing what you know you need to do.

It’s 7:40, this post is done.
