The Bro-Bowl | Introduction to OSHA

May 17 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm UTC+0
Pacific Time
Presented by Blue Collar Bros – Safety & Training at bluecollarbros.org | The safety and training arm of the Goat Propulsion Laboratory and goat-pen.com
This Training is Presented by an Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer with 3 decades of high risk industry and military experience. However, it is not currently OSHA Authorized Training as per the the OSHA Outreach 10/30 Hour Training Program and does not count towards the OSHA 10/30 hour requirements. We’re working to change that. Please scroll down to learn more about our efforts to improve workplace safety training and bust the Online OSHA Training Oligopoly.
Course access to members and Livestream link to follow.
This is the first ever Bro-Bowl, Livestreamed Virtual Interactive Tailgate Training Session. For this inaugural event, we’re paying an homage “of sorts” to the OSHA Outreach training program and offering a copycat version of the Introduction to OSHA training module – usually the first, and one of the required modules for getting your OSHA 10 or 30 DOL Card.
In this module you will learn about OSHA, The OSH Act, Employee Rights, Employer Responsibilities, OSHA Inspections, Complaint Procedures and more.
This event is being held at Noon Pacific Time on a Saturday in an effort to reach as many people as possible, whether you live in New York, California, Alaska or Hawaii.
This module follows the standard Bro-Bowl format:
- 15 Minute Presentation
- 30 Minute Game/Activity
- 15 Minute Debrief
Goat Pen Members will have access to our virtual game board and will compete with other participants in real time in a quiz bowl structured activity.
Resources will be made available in the online course including quick reference cards, instructional videos, a challenge exam and a completion certificate suitable for inclusion in your training record and presenting to CEU granting organizations. Members can also join their peers in the dedicated Bro-Bowl and Bro-Bowl Dark Goat Pens (aka discussion groups and forums) and in any of our Community Goat Pens.
Also, make sure to visit bluecollarbros.org to check out our growing library of FREE safety training resources including flash cards, flash cubes, crossword puzzles and more. We’re just getting started with this library, so please be patient with us as we roll out new materials.
Help us Break the OSHA Training Oligopoly:
This course is (currently) presented by an Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer (OSHA has threatened to revoke the trainer’s authorization in retaliation for complaining and seeking redress of grievance for administrative overreach, waste, fraud and abuse by a government agency). However, this training is not currently an authorized OSHA training course. OSHA program standards for virtual courses delivered by Authorized Outreach Trainers have a 20:1 student to instructor ratio and a 40 student max capacity. They do not allow for use of cellular devices and do permit instructors to offer a portion of the training as self-paced with online resources. As an alternative, OSHA has authorized a small oligopoly of self-paced online training providers to train students with a 1.2 Million to Zero student to instructor ratio, no class size restriction and no device restrictions. In October of 2019 OSHA suspended all applications for new online training providers creating an oligopoly and allowing exclusive access to the reported 1.2 Million students/year served by the online training. In some states and for most public works contracts, OSHA 10/30 is required training. As a result of the oligopoly and other program restrictions targeting outreach trainers, online providers are able to offer training with pricing and convenience that in-person trainers cannot compete with. We believe this is a clear violation of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and constitutes Waste, Fraud and Abuse by a Federal Agency. In response to our complaint, OSHA threatened to revoke our founder’s trainer authorization.
Someday soon, we hope this kind of inexpensive, convenient, fun and “sticky” safety training will be authorized as an alternative to the OSHA Outreach Training 10/30 hour courses. In fact, we’re currently embarked on a mission to convince President Donald J. Trump to sign an executive order prohibiting any State OSHA or Contract Authority from requiring OSHA 10/30 hour training without accepting a suitable alternative. We believe this is the most direct route to addressing the Waste, Fraud and Abuse perpetrated by OSHA, while also saving the valuable OSHA Outreach Training Program. OSHA’s corruption and incompetence in administering this program has had a significant negative impact on the safety of the American workforce by sanctioning low quality online training and by preventing innovation in training content and delivery. It’s unfortunate that OSHA would resort to threats to protect the oligopoly and unfortunate that our OSHA Authorized Trainer and founder would have to put his training authorization at risk to seek redress of grievance, which is a protected right as per the 14th Amendment.
To OSHA and the individuals at OSHA issuing the threats, our founder has this message: “Come at me Bro!”
